Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Heavy on sexual shenanigans but light on substance, Hill's newest Viking time-travel romance (after A Tale of Two Vikings) holds a few chuckles but is more often a cause for serious eye rolling. Like an oversize puppy, Viking Ragnor Magnusson is so good-looking and dopey that it's hard not to smile at his swaggering arrogance and lustful ways, even when he exhibits a startling lack of intelligence upon being yanked out of the 11th century and landing in a 21st-century Navy SEALs training camp. Ragnor takes the change in stride and proceeds with the SEALs training, though his surroundings are shockingly unfamiliar and everyone thinks his name is Max. Even beautiful navy doctor Alison MacLean (whom he mistakes for a "dock-whore") calls him Max. Unfazed, Ragnor launches a campaign to get Alison into his "bed furs" and helps guard her against a stalker who may have terrorist ties. The presence of the stalker/terrorist plot thread in a screwball comedy such as this is jarring, and the subplot lacks suspense. Many of Hill's attempts at humor also fall flat (for an example, one need look no further than the inane subheads littered throughout: "She who hesitates is laid... uh, lost... uh, same thing..."). This book brings new meaning to the word "lightweight," but those who relish sex scenes involving sugary condiments may find some enjoyment.

From Booklist

In her latest Viking romance, Hill portrays Ragnor Magnusson, who is profoundly bored with his life, and bereft, believing that his parents and many brothers and sisters were lost years ago in a shipwreck. Deciding that the only way out of his slump is to go a'Viking, which would include battles, invasions, and lots of blood, Ragnor leaves his village. During a particularly gruesome attack, he has a vision of his half brother, Torolf, and a red-haired goddess surrounded in light and beckoning to him. Much to his surprise, he then finds himself in a SEAL training camp, where everyone thinks he is Torolf, and where the red-haired goddess turns out to be Lieutenant Alison MacLean, a navy doctor who doesn't know what to make of him. To complicate things further, the SEAL's quick-tempered instructor is Alison's brother, and he doesn't approve of any contact between Ragnor and his sister. Whether Ragnor is mangling the language, driving his frustrated SEAL trainer crazy, or persistently wooing a superior officer, this stubborn Viking is an excellent addition to Hill's wonderful cast of naughty, nervy, time-traveling Norsemen. 4.0 out of 5 stars Funny, August 31, 2005
By MAD4ROMBKS "Mad" (North Carolina) - See all my reviews
Ragnor Magnusson is bored. He's 27 years old and lately feels that things aren't as they should be. He misses his family immensely and decides to go a-Viking with some fellow friends of his. Never for one minute did he imagine what would happen to him next. Just as he thought he was dying in battle, he sees a beautiful redhead beckoning him to come to her and he comes to as someone is shoving his head underwater in the ocean. Hitting back at the man trying to drown him, Ragnor swims to shore and later finds out he's traveled through time and is mistakenly taken for a SEAL recruit.

Lieutenant Alison MacLean is the sister of Ian MacLean, the man training Ragnor and the other men to be SEALs. She's not your typical petite heroine. She's almost 6 feet tall and has had to work hard to get where she is now. Previously engaged to the man of her dreams, Allison wants nothing to do with heartaches after her fiance was killed two years earlier. But things change when she meets Ragnor.

It's lust at first sight for Ragnor, but Allison tends to follow the rules so what is a Viking to do, but woo her into his bed? How he ended up in a different time he doesn't know, but he knows Allison is his destiny because she was the woman he saw when he thought he was dying. What follows is a rollicking laugh-out-loud adventure between the two of them. I laughed out loud so often reading this that my daughter was constantly giving me looks, probably wondering what was wrong with her mom. *G*

You know you're in for a great read when you pick up a Sandra Hill book. Be sure to pick up WET & WILD when you see it on the shelves...you won't be sorry.

5.0 out of 5 stars What's not to like!!!, April 12, 2005
This is one of the funniest books that I've read in a long time. Ragnor, the male protagonist, is a viking warrior who's traveled through time and wakes up in a Navy Seals camp. He falls for a superior officer, Lieutenant Alison MacLean, and is punished by her brother, Master Chief Ian MacLean, for daring to want his sister. Ragnor, with his audacious charm and built-for-sin body, is a character you can't help but love. The dialogue is witty and sharp, and all of the characters are hard to resist. I can't wait to read about Ian and Ragnor's sister, Madrene, as well as the many other characters introduced in this book!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Funniest book I've read in a long time! Oh it's steamy too!, September 28, 2004
By E. Lindgren "Lina" (Philadelphia, PA United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Ragnor... a wickedly delicious source of addiction, comes with its own recipe: 1 part Viking warrior, 1 part U.S. Navy SEAL, 1 part Greek God (well, in appearance anyway); add some wise-guyness, wicked sense of humor, total disregard for rules and regulations, natural inclination to always stir things up (be it tempers, hearts or senses), and top it all off with a certain ... enthusiasm, that's back with a vengeance.

Ten long and devastating years after loosing almost his entire family, Ragnor, a born and raised Viking warrior, finds himself in the middle of unfamiliar war games, in a strange land, surrounded by enemies unlike any he's ever known before. Following his instinct of survival he plays along, searching for explanations for the baffling situation he's in. Somehow he also believes that he has found his Destiny.

Unfortunately, his Destiny outranks him, is completely forbidden to him and thinks he needs to see a shrink. Ragnor might be alone (or is he?) and confused in this new world, but he's certain that he will have what is his.

What a treat it is to read a book you can't put down until you've read it cover-to-cover, and laughed out loud most of the time (earning constant stares from everyone in your home). I think that's a Sandra Hill trademark, but "Wet & Wild" in particular, exceeded even those expectations.

The book is hilarious, incredibly steamy and wonderfully written (I just couldn't put it down). I even loved the secondary characters, and wouldn't mind reading a few of their stories. Long live the Ericssons and the talent of Ms. Hill!
