Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review
Richard Meier is one of the most renowned architects working today. His works are characterized by their rationalism, their rather detached purity, and their large expanses of reticulated forms masterfully articulating voids and solids. An architect obsessed with visual effects, Meier is known for such large-scale projects as the Getty Center in Los Angeles. This oversize book, however, concentrates solely on Meier's residential works. Fourteen houses are featured through dramatic color photos of both interior and exterior side by side with drawings, plans, and reflections of both the architect and his clients. A bibliography and a chronology of all of Meier's residential projects, both built and unbuilt, complete this visually stunning volume.

Product Description
This oversized book showcases 14 American houses built by architect Richard Meier, who is renowned for such large-scale projects as the Getty Center in Los Angeles and the Smith House on the coast of Connecticut. New color interior and exterior photography is featured, along with drawings, plans, client's personal reflections, and the architect's insights. 225 full-color illustrations.

This book is fantastic if you are a fan of modern resisential architecture that is not so avante-guard to be uninhabitable. Photos are excellent. I only wish there were more of the interiors.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magnificent Whiteness, April 7, 2005
I must confess I love Richard Meier's work. His structures are so clean and modern, I love the use of glass and light. Honestly, if I where fabulously wealthy he would be the first person I called to build my house, and I would pay him anything. Nobody designs a house like Mr. Meier and this book does a grand job of illustrating that point.. the photographs are first rate and the colors are sharp. The latter is so important when doing a book on his work because the play of light on white is what his buidings are all about. All of his best houses before 97 are covered and they are all given the royal treatment. If you love clean crisp modern design then buy this wonderful book on this master architects work, you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Modernist dream, December 8, 2000
By M. Richardson (Solomons Island, Maryland) - See all my reviews
In a word,Light. Meier's ability to use light like a fine instrument is a site to behold. For those not knowledgeable of Richard Meier's masterpieces, you will be forced to become believers that although stark and sometimes serene modern architecture in his hands becomes true art.For modern architecture lovers this is a must read. Beautifully bound, and wonderfully sized this volume will be a welcome anchor on any coffee table.
