Product Description
Today, it is universally recognized that the Arabian horse is a horse with certain unique characteristics. What is less well known is the history of the Arabian horse and its fight to retain its purity and its very survival. In this book the autthor has set out to record the story from pre-biblical times to the present day. It is a record of pilgrimage which began in the desert. Many extracts from contemporary diaries and traveller’s accounts, including those of Lady Ann Blunt and her husband Wilfrid Scawen Blunt—to when the world owes a debt than can never be repaid for the survial and preservation of the Arabian breed.

About the Author
Margaret Greely spent the formative years of her life in Northern India where she was born. Horses were part of her life; at first, as the accepted and most desirable means of transport. Later, when she was allowed to make her own choice, they were her most treasured possessions, valued as much for their beauty as for their performance. In 1942, when many stued were forced to reduce their stock, she bought her first pure Arabian of Hanstead bloodlines and thus established Well House Stud. Miss Greely was well known throughout the Arabain horse world and an authority on many aspects of the breed until her death at 103 years old in December 2000.

By A Customer
Well, I'm not an english native speaker, but this book was simply excellent... my first book about arabians and a terrific introduction... no complicated stories but a clear overview of the most important horses and breeders in the past with a lot of rare pictures... an introduction to make you read more !!! The book starts from the Lady Blunt story and follows the english horses whole the world round... eacht country has a separate chapter with it's most important horses, stories and pictures... and this book is NOT expensive !

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining and informative book about Arabian horses in the world., November 27, 2006
By M. ANNE (california) - See all my reviews
This 30 year old book is a wealth of information about the Arabian horse, its history around the world and the struggle to keep it pure. The author in this book has shown the pilgrimage of the Arabian horse from preBiblical times to the spread to England and around the world. It is well illustrated and there are many photos of old foundation horses. A lovely, historical book for anyone, and especially for those Arabian Horse lovers who want to learn more about this wonderful breed's history.
