It includes both metabolic and infectious diseases, including those causd or borne by viruses, bacteria, helminths, ticks and flies, in both intensive and extensive, and also tropical and temperate production sustems. This provides a sound base for the understanding of many infectious and metabolic diseases of economic importance throughout the world in all major domestic species, understanding the current knowledge of the gentic control of these diesease, and appreciation of the scope for genetic solutions to these disease problems and a knowledge of the tools available to achieve those solutions.
