From School Library Journal
Grade 3-5 One of the seven stories in this book is about a metal parrot that creates mischief by eating metal objects, grows to a tremendous size, and finally heroically saves a family by gobbling a runaway digger. The other six are not much better. Each is about a girl who pursues quite untraditional interests such as driving a forklift truck, fighting dragons, or piloting a helicopter. Although the absurd situations are mildly amusing, better books about plucky, intrepid girls have been written. Try The Ordinary Princess (Doubleday, 1984) by M. M. Kaye, or go back to Pippi Longstocking (Viking). Lucy V. Hawley, Wescott School, Northbrook, Ill.
