Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal
Interest in collecting popular culture has mushroomed in the United States, especially in the past 20 years. While the term ephemera partly applies to the collectibles described here, the authors center on items that are specifically made of or printed on paper. An update on American paper is long overdue; one of the last books to be published on the subject was the Official Price Guide to Paper Collectibles (House of Collectibles, 1986. 5th ed.). General but very utilitarian, Warman's Paper covers a history of the field, describes pertinent terminology and the care of paper, contains addresses for shows and auction houses, and discusses the current market. Designed to be searched either by topic or subject, it offers prices for items like broadsides, animation cells, and sheet music that are hard to find in conventional price guides. Best for public libraries.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Guide for Old Paper Collectors, March 6, 2006
By Marty Weil (Charlotte, NC) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This was clearly a labor of love for co-authors Martinus and Rinker. Their mini-guide to ephemera collecting in the front of the book is more than worth the cost of the book. It is a joy to read. It provides anyone interested in collecting ephemera will an outstanding overview of the field.

Although the prices listed in the guide are now outdated, the book remains a useful reference for any serious collector of ephemera. This important reference deserves a place on any old paper collector's bookshelf.

It would be wonderful to see a revised edition of this guide with current prices.
