Product Description
As Timely a Call to Revival As It Was When First Published Four Decades Ago

A. W. Tozer said, "Those who know Leonard Ravenhill will recognize in him the religious specialist, the man sent from God not to carry on the conventional work of the church, but to beard the priests of Baal on their own mountaintop, to shame the careless priest on the altar, to face the false prophet and warn the people who are being led astray by him."

Leonard Ravenhill became one of the twentieth century's greatest authorities on revival, and the heart of his message to the Church is contained in these pages. His message is drastic, fearless, and often radical. Appalled by the disparity between the New Testament Church and what passes for the Church today, Ravenhill gives a no-compromise call to the principles of biblical revival.

About the Author
Leonard Ravenhill was born in 1907 in the city of Leeds, in Yorkshire, England. After his conversion to Christ, he was trained for the ministry at Cliff College. It soon became evident that evangelism was his forte, and he engaged it with both vigor and power. Eventually he became one of England's foremost outdoor evangelists. His meetings in the war years drew traffic jamming crowds in Britain, and great numbers of his converts not only followed the Savior into the Kingdom, but into Christian ministry and the world's mission fields.

In 1939 he married an Irish nurse named Martha. Together they had three sons. Paul and David are ministers, and Philip is a teacher. Leonard went home to be with the Lord in November of 1994.

5.0 out of 5 stars A bolt from the blue to the heart of a complacent Church, November 20, 2002

"A man ablaze."

There is no other way to describe Leonard Ravenhill. And as the man is, so are his writings. If you can read this book and not be driven to your knees, even as you rend your clothing, then buddy you're dead already!

A condensation of "Why Revival Tarries" into a few words would yield the truth that it's Man's fault alone. You see, God wants to pour out revival, to set all of us ablaze with the fire of His Spirit, but we are so oblivious to the truth that our hearts are totally turned away from Him that we cannot begin to acquire what He is so richly wanting to shower us with.

It starts with repentence - and not your mamby-pamby, watered-down 21st century style repentence, but the kind that tears a man or woman down to the soul, only to allow God to rebuild and reshape. Ravenhill argues that this is not something that happens overnight. If the Church wants revival, it's going to come with a cost. He proceeds to layout a compelling vision of that cost and the crucibles needed to hold what God will pour out.

No Christian library is complete without the works of Leonard Ravenhill, and the best place to start is with "Why Revival Tarries". Get it today and be prepared for the glory that will come.

5.0 out of 5 stars a burning message from a burning heart!, March 30, 1999

I have read many christian books in the past, but this stands out. Bro Leonard did not beat about the bush. The chapters are short enough to be read in about fifteen minutes, but they are so packed that each may take you two solid hours to read. Every chapter is thought-provoking. Since I got the book in 1984, I have read it more than 30 times! And each time, it appears as if I never read it before. If you would read this book, be ready to end up upon your knees!

4.0 out of 5 stars A book sure to afflict the comfortable; buy it!, May 7, 2003
By Kurt A. Johnson (Marseilles, Illinois, USA) - See all my reviews

This fascinating book was originally published in 1959 by British evangelist Leonard Ravenhill (1907-1994). In it, Rev. Ravenhill launches a fiery attack on the complacency and drowsiness of the modern Protestant Church. He calls for prayer, fervent and unceasing prayer.

This book is not for those who like their Christianity academic and dispassionate. Rev. Ravenhill blazes through this book like the fire-and-brimstone preachers of yesteryear, calling for "hell-shaking prayer." This is a book sure to afflict the comfortable; buy it!
