Editorial Reviews

Product Description
This edition is the first revision of the Standard Catalog of World Gold Coins since 1993, and represents seven years of effort and worldwide research by the experienced Krause cataloging staff and the expertise of over 200 dealers, scholars and collectors. No other volume is as comprehensive, accurate or thorough in depicting all collectible aspects of gold coins. This 1,100+ page, hardcover volume covers gold coins, date-by-date, from 1601 to present, plus palladium, platinum and off-metal sister issues. Complete date/mint listings, actual weights, current values in up to four grades of condition, coupled with crisp obverse and reverse photos help make this extraordinary volume the most-anticipated coin collecting price guide in a decade.

-Major revision, first in 8 years.
-All gold coins from 1601 to present.
-Current coin prices listed date-by-date in up to 4 grades of condition. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best guide to world gold coins after year 1600, February 27, 2004
By Clark Smith "Clark Smith" (San Rafael, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This is the best guide to world gold coins dated
after 1600. Before 1600, look for Friedberg's
"Gold Coins of the World" which has gold ancient coins
and gold coins up to year 1600.

4.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive WRT national gold, platinum, palladium coins, August 23, 2001
By Jay Wherley (Central FL USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This tome offers a comprehensive look at just about every nationally issued gold, platinum, and palladium coin. Specie are listed by country. All photographs are black & white and lifesize. I believe private issued coins are not covered. For all the listed coins, the mintage numbers, dimensions, and estimated value are provided.

All in all the most complete reference to gold, platinum, and palladium coins you will find in one book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A ONE OF A KIND XVI CENTURY TO PRESENT WORLD GOLD COINS ENCYCLOPEDIA ~ EVERY NUMISMATIST SHOULD HAVE, February 17, 2007
5 STARS -- If you are familiar with Chester L. Krause publications Standard Catalogue Of World Coins Series, those books share its style and contents with the Encyclopedia of World Gold Coins, the same format and and easy to use information on every minted gold, platinum, and palladium coin. coins, actual size photos are in B&W but is missing complete important sections like whole countries as in Netherlands, and segments as in Australian Sovereigns, 1500's???. You can find missing information within the 4 now 5 volumes of Standard Catalog Of World Coins 1600-2005.
This volume is easy to use contains a wealth of information and excellent organization seldom found in other books.
***** 5 STARS for content and easy of use.
it has some shortcomings but is an invaluable resource.
