Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

Many of us would love to jump on the home-based business bandwagon but we simply don't have the qualifications or experience to start a new enterprise from scratch. Popular self-employment authors Paul and Sarah Edwards recognized this predicament, and with Walter Zooi, they have assembled a comprehensive resource precisely for such hesitant entrepreneurs. Home Businesses You Can Buy thoroughly examines franchises, multilevel marketing, and other "prepackaged" business opportunities, and includes important advice on avoiding related scams.

From Library Journal

Starting a home business is increasingly an area of opportunity for many, and prepackaged home businesses offer an alternative to building a home-based business from scratch. The Edwardses, veteran business authors (Finding Your Perfect Work, LJ 12/95), have prepared a practical guide that focuses on three categories of home business packages: franchises, multilevel marketing, and business opportunities. They thoroughly analyze each category, including a history of each business concept (e.g., franchising), and discuss legal aspects, advantages and disadvantages, and case studies. The authors provide a helpful checklist to measure consumer compatibility with each type of prepackaged business, and they list useful directory information. A valuable addition is the bibliography of books, associations, and Internet resources. This book is an excellent starting point for anyone desiring to buy a home-based business. 5.0 out of 5 stars Getting Off to The Right Start Means Avoiding Scams, November 29, 1999
By A Customer
I found this book incredibly helpful in getting me off on the right foot in my home-based business. The book clearly outlines the three major "pre-packaged" types businesses available (franchises, business opportunities and multi-level marketing). Then comes the good part. The authors provide a series of tests and checklists that can be applied to any business that you might consider buying. Tests to determine a business' chances for success, the honesty of the seller, the forthrightness of opportunity - and even a test you take yourself to find out if the business is a good match for your personality and skill level - follow each section. These tests, and the information they reveal, take much of the guesswork out making a decision as important as what kind of (and which kind of) business to buy. I highly recommend it. The Edwards', with Walter Zooi, have done it again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great understanding and fullfillment of the readers needs, February 15, 2002
By TIM HOLT (OAK RIDGE, TN) - See all my reviews
I searched a dozen books looking for my future business. I found this book gave me more than I expected from anyone. Help with evaluating myself, the many businesses, and how well they fit my skills and preferences was provided. The only need I found missing, I learned, was illegal for franchisers to say -what range of income is produced with these businesses. That information has to come from somewhere else.
