From Booklist
Gr. 3^-6, younger for use with an adult. This official publication of the American Kennel Club will be a favorite with dog lovers. It begins with a general section that advises readers on buying a dog, responsibilities, rewards, and how to match a dog with one's situation. It is less helpful, however, when it comes to actually choosing a breed. More than 100 dogs are profiled, with information on history, appearance, health, and "fun facts." Crisp color photographs accompany each article. Unfortunately, there is no information about a breed's weak points or liabilities, which is key to making a decision on getting a particular breed. A final section gives good advice about nutrition and health issues. Oh, yes, there are also plenty of plugs for the American Kennel Club, and the advantages of owning a purebred dog.
