Editorial Reviews

Review

Whether your dog is the family pet, a canine athlete, or a working dog, orthopedics affects every aspect of that dog's daily life, including the ability to stand, lie down, site, as well as to move comfortably and efficiently. Damaged bones, along with soft tissue injury and strictures, can cause wear and tear on joints. This can lead to lameness, discomfort, pain, impaired function and irritability. Although we may not think of it or realize it, that sweet, loving companion can turn into an irritable grouch if even the simplest orthopedic problems exist. Canine Orthopedics identifies and discusses the diseases and maladies, genetic, environmental and traumatic, that affect the skeletal structure of dogs. These problems that determine the fitness, function, soundness and overall well-being of dogs. Canine Orthopedics directs particular emphasis to how owners can learn to evaluate problems; preventative measures including nutrition, accident prevention and selective breeding; treatment options (including the very latest and experimental programs from veterinary schools); and causes of lameness. Canine Orthopedics will give all dog owners enhanced insight to use for themselves and communicate more effectively with the veterinarian. -- Midwest Book Review

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly good book, December 9, 2003
By A Customer
Just have to say its an incredibly good book on dogs. Those of us who love dogs sometimes sit around at shows endlessly analyzing gait. This book is a professional way to do it, but written so well that amateurs can understand and be interested. Good for all breeds, but if you have a dog in performance events, like hunting, coursing, running, or agility, you need this book. Or, if you have a breed prone to hip dysplasia, like Rotties or Dobes, you need this book.
