From the Inside Flap
For more than a hundred years, archaeologists have worked in the Southwest attempting to learn more about the people who once lived in the massive stone buildings at places like Chaco, Canyon de Chelly, and Navajo National Monument. Laboring in the cold or heat, women and men have excavated rooms, trash middens, and plazas, attempting to understand when and how these people lived and why they left.
In Architecture of the Ancient Ones, photographer Val Brinkerhoff takes us on a quiet walk in this area where others once dwelled. It is a visually stunning account of the ruins left behind, through which much has been learned about the Ancient Ones of 800 years.
