4.0 out of 5 stars Some cool ideas for intermediate or advanced players, December 2, 2007
I like this book because you get tips from a variety of players and some excellent examples of concepts/riffs that you can apply right away. More than just the written music itself, the book is helpful because it comes with a CD,decent editing of the musically notated examples and some analysis of what's going on. Personally, as a guy who has to be well-versed in a number of styles and technically proficient at everything from sweep picking, country bends, blues bends, turnarounds and jazz chord voicings to just stylistic concepts I found just about every segment to be useful. Incorporating all these things into my playing is another thing. Although it'll take any player a good amount of time to really work through these examples and make them his own, I can't help but want even more. There's plenty here to be sure, but a second volume would be welcomed...or fewer of the conceptual descriptions that don't have musical examples. I think it'd be helpful to write about how all these distinct players get their tones and use certain effects too. I definitely recommend it either way, just not for a beginner.
