Product Description
Officially proclaiming blesseds and saints has not been something marginal or occasional in the twenty years of John Paul II's pontificate. Our Sunday Visitor invites you to get acquainted with these blesseds and saints, these holy men and women, in John Paul II's Book of Saints.

Created in the same easy-to-use format that characterizes Our Sunday Visitor's other popular reference works, John Paul II's Book of Saints is an extensive compendium of the Pope's more than three hundred canonizations, and more than seven hundred beatifications to date. Here are the stories of those the Holy Father proposes as models for us to imitate - real people we can feel confident will forward our praises and requests to Our Heavenly Father.

With its emphasis on the Church's vision of the Faith and how holy men and women from around the globe have lived out that vision over the centuries, John Paul II's Book of Saints is more than a listing of the Pope’s saints and blessed; it is also and inspirational collection of biographies that will enable readers to enrich their faith and explore the courage and conviction of those who have entered the gates of heaven.

An internationally-known writer and artist, Margaret began her career as a journalist for Catholic newspapers. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiration for living, March 27, 2000
By Tim Drake "Author and Journalist" (Saint Joseph, Minnesota) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Pope John Paul II has beatified some 1,786 Saints during his pontificate, and will canonize another 150 in the Jubilee year. The number alone exceeds the number canonized by any other Pope in history, leading some to describe his pontificate as a "Saint factory." This book provides an exhaustive glimpse into that factory with the hagiographies of more than 300 canonized Saints and 700 beatified Saints. The book includes such inspiring biographies as Blessed Gianna Beretta Molla, the Italian wife, mother and doctor who unselfishly gave her life for her unborn child; the handsome, young, mountain climber Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati; and Mexican martyr Father Miguel Pro.

Having just completed one of the bloodiest centuries the world has ever seen, Pope John Paul II is trying to tell us something. These stories are examples of his vision for the Church. They provide inspiration that he knows we will need as we face the century ahead of us. Furthermore, the stories prove that anyone can become a Saint -our friends, neighbors, co-workers, children, and maybe even ourselves.
