Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Since the release of Rechtschaffen and Kales' seminal manual on sleep medicine in 1968, the discipline has undergone a rapid expansion. This text is the product of a project by all members of the Mayo Clinic Sleep Disorders Center to create the first Atlas of Sleep Medicine. This constitutes a valuable resource for students, clinicians, technicians and researchers interested in learning more about identification, description and treatment of sleep disorders.

The text features 122 polysomnograms and 5 enlarged ECGs to give a complete visual record of the broad spectrum of sleep disorders. An explanation follows each illustration, furnishing a concise case history of the disorder, including key references. This atlas, a classic in this growing field, provides illustrative examples of how polysomnography, multiple sleep latency testing, pulse oximetry, actigraphy, and pupillometry are used in the diagnostic evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders.

Atlas of Sleep Medicine remains an indispensable resource for physicians, technicians and students involved with the wide spectrum of pathology that may manifest itself during sleep.

5.0 out of 5 stars Medical Professionals, August 18, 2000
By "jasanir" (PA, USA) - See all my reviews
This is an excellent pictoral review of polysomnographs, essential for the people getting trained at reading and interpretating sleep studies (e.g. PSG technicians and Sleep Physicians). It provides basic information about different waveforms in EEG and respiratory tracings accompanies by pictures of polysomnographs.

3.0 out of 5 stars Atlas of Sleep Medicine, December 17, 2001
Although the Atlas of Sleep Medicine is 10 years old, it contains still relevant, quickly referenced information presented in a clear, concise manner. I have owned a copy for 6-7 years and find that it answers some questions faster and better than more recent texts.

At the time of issue it rated 4 stars. Due to its age and scope it now rates 3 stars.

A vital comapanion to the Atlas of Sleep Medicine is the Atlas of Clinical Polysomnography (5 stars but much more expensive) by Nick Butkov.
