Skating on cross-country skis is an advanced technique that requires considerably different skills from those needed for conventional cross-country skiing. It is much faster than the traditional kick-and-glide Nordic style, because it borrows much from the competitive sport of speed skating. The authors direct their innovative advice at intermediate to advanced skiers who want to better understand and execute the new trend. They begin by explaining the body mechanics of the skating stroke and then cover a wide assortment of factors that make up a complete training program. The well-written text is the first to deal with this increasingly popular sport form so thoroughly. Highly recommended. Will Hepfer, SUNY at Buffalo Libs.
