Product Description
The classic work on Adirondack trails has been updated to include three new hikes; dozens of new topographical maps; new text and cover designs; and the author's fascinating sidebars on Adirondack history, lore, and natural history. At 6 million acres, the Adirondack Park is large enough to require a lifetime's exploration. Yet few of its visitors range beyond the spectacular--and ecologically sensitive--High Peaks area. This book lets hikers in on dozens of stunning trails leading to spots still uncrowded--without, of course, neglecting the old favorite hikes! Along the way, the author includes observations from her own lifetime's exploration of the Adirondacks. You'll find descriptions of plants and wildlife, incidents from the area's colorful past, explanations of some of its odder place-names (Pokamoonshine?), and more.
