5.0 out of 5 stars Great overview, January 24, 2006
For someone trying to get a general overview of a part of the world they did not pay to much attention to and are now fascinated with, this book is perfect. Lots of beautiful imagery and helpful hints on what to watch out for and do when traveling.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for the general, bad for the specific, May 21, 2008
By Global Citizen (Mountain View, CA) - See all my reviews
If you're looking for general information (with pictures!) about the countries, this is a great place to start. Beyond that, this probably won't be of too much help. The book does a good job of talking about potential tourist spots, but don't count on it to help you with finding good hotels, places to eat, etc. I would recommend flipping through this in a bookstore to find what country you're really interested in, and then switching back to Lonely Planet for the specifics.

5.0 out of 5 stars Insight Guide South America, May 15, 2008
By K. Dies (Tampa, FL) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Doing research for a trip involves both the facts and the visual stimulation of anticipated sights to see. The Insight Guide to South America provides that visual stimulation and beautifully descriptive words of the highlights of South America. When coupled with the Footprint Travel Guide for South America, it is a winning combination of practical information and adrenalin generating visual imagery.
