Chapter 3 presents information on how to assess ADHD. Existing techniques, ways for teachers to interpret the requirements for identification in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-Fourth Edition, and formal, standardized assessment instruments are described. Chapter 4 provides practical, comprehensive suggestions for managing the classroom environment. Group-management techniques are presented, along with suggestions on how to manage the physical environment to best deal with students with ADHD. One section is devoted to behavior-management techniques, and practical ideas are presented about how to use these techniques with children with ADHD. A checklist in the appendix is provided as an example of interventions based on specific characteristics. Chapter 5 discusses instructional accommodations for children with ADHD.
