Product Description
"Out of all the thousands of boys in the Empire, a boy from your school has been chosen for a high position in our government. You are summoned to report immediately to the palace." The soldier looked up at the students. "Which is the boy named Brill?"

Thus begins Brill's adventure in the palace of Immane, cruel emperor of Exitorn. Forced to leave his mother and their little farm in Grebing, Brill journeys to Palatial Island where he will serve the royal family as a companion to selfish Emprince Grossder.

Now Brill discovers that he must keep the Emprince entertained at all times or risk being thrown to the dinogators. He is determined to search for his missing father, but someone warns him not to ask troublesome questions. And, worst of all, he is becoming entangled in his friend Segra's daring plan to restore the rightful king of Exitorn. How can he and Segra keep from being caught and executed for treason?

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, January 29, 2000
This is the first book of a magical, inspiring series. Yet the magic is less about the middle-ages universe that the characters are in as much as their personalities.

A peasant boy, Brill, is plucked from his home to be the personal companion to the irritating, obnoxious Prince Grossder. During his time in the sumptuous but dangerous palace, he meets strong-willed Segra and the reptilian dragator (aquatic dragon) Peachy. They both join a rebellion against the evil king...

It is a shame that this series is mostly out of print. It beats most of the pop fiction of the same reading level.

3.0 out of 5 stars Classic series, but where's are the old covers and titles?, March 21, 2006
I read the Exitorn Adventures when I was a kid, and loved them. I've even re-read the series and an adult, and it holds up well. They're extremely easy reads and are appropriate for someone in 4th-6th grade; they have both intriguing plotlines and believable characters. Furthermore, the Christian view with which they're written is, although simplistic, not "shoe-horned" into the story in a forced way. I remember thinking how much better this book was than *The Tower of Geburah* (although let's be quite frank - it's not in the same league as Narnia). Altogether, I'd give the series four stars.

The only problem, however, is that this new edition changed the cover and the title! Instead of the engaging artwork of the previous editions (with bright, primary colors), we now have something that looks like the artwork from some 19th-century kids' book. The title also didn't need to be changed - why break something if it doesn't need fixing? Of course, it's best not to judge a book by its cover, but the old books screamed "Read me!" This edition makes me think I'm going to be picking up some antiquated version of *Jane Eyre* for kids.

I'll stick with my old editions, even if they are a little worn, and will wait and hope that they'll soon bring it back in a package at least as good (if not better) than the previous one.
