5.0 out of 5 stars Every parent and professional should have this book..., January 4, 2002
By Carolyn K. "Mrs. Hoagie" (Hoagies' Gifted Education Page) - See all my reviews

Dr. Silverman covers all the issues that our gifted children bring to us, in Counseling... I have two profoundly gifted children, and I wish I read this book sooner - it helps SO much in my understanding of them, of what they are going through. We, as parents, are our children's first counselor, and this book makes it so much easier for us to "do the job" for our gifted children.

Characteristics of giftedness, emotional aspects, over-excitabilities, special needs, peers, home, school, even multi-cultural and gender issues are dealt with in this comprehensive volume.

And every counselor, psychologist, and other professional who deals with gifted children shoudl read this book, and keep it as reference on their shelf... close at hand.

Mine is full of post-it flags... in my library, that says it all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Describes special characteristics and emotional needs of gif, June 8, 1997

This book is the absolute best resource I have found for understanding the many and complex needs of gifted children. Her section on the "Gifted Over-Excitabilites" is tremendously helpful to parents, teachers and counselors working with this population. A copy belongs in every gifted education program as resource material for teachers and parents. As a parent of a gifted child, I say get your copy today

5.0 out of 5 stars A "must have" for parents of gifted children, October 19, 2000
By A Customer
I am the mother of a highly gifted son and I have been reading everything I can get my hands on. This book has been invaluable. It confimed things I already knew, it opened my eyes to things I had missed, and it alerted me to issues to watch out for in thefuture. You *need* this book if you are a parent of a gifted child, and moreso if your child is highly or profroundly gifted.
