Product Description

dvances in histotechnology continue to expand the capabilities of the histopathology laboratory, but also require continual study by practitioners to remain current. The second edition of Histotechnology; A Self-Instructional Text presents all the latest advances as well as the fundamentals that are critical to achieving the highest quality work.

Written as both reference and teaching tool Histotechnology; A Self-Instructional Text addresses the essentials of preparing histology specimens including staining and processing, laboratory safety issues, and immunohistochemistry in fourteen instructional units. Electron microscopy and enzyme histochemistry have been added to this edition to help histotechnologists preparing for the HTL(ASCP) certifying examination. Each unit presents the learning objectives of the section, explains and illustrates the technique, and then gives specific learning activities that will reinforce the information. Written as both a teaching tool and reference, the format also makes troubleshooting fast and easy.

Histotechnology is an excellent learning tool for histologic technic students, and for residents and pathologists seeking to expand their understanding of the technology used in the histopathology laboratory. It is equally well suited as a desk reference for the more common special staining techniques and their results.

Partial Contents
Fixation; Processing; Instrumentation; Safety; Laboratory Mathematics and Solution Preparation; Nuclear and Cytoplasmic Staining; Carbohydrates and Amyloid; Connective and Muscle Tissue; Nerve; Microorganisms; Pigments, Minerals, and Cytoplasmic Granules; Immunohistochemistry; Enzyme Histochemistry; Electron Microscopy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Freida Carson Histology review, July 26, 2000
By A Customer
I think this is one of the best instructional histology books I have seen. It gives a solid background of the information needed to certify with the board of registry and allows a individual to learn on there own while working in the histo laboratory. This book has helped me to grasp all basis in the subject while keeping it interesting and not dull. I strongly suggest this book along with the instructional workbook for anyone who is starting out in the field of histology. It will be worth your money.

5.0 out of 5 stars From veterinarian and pathologis, June 8, 2004
This is with no doubt one of the best book written in the field of histology and pathohistology. I used this book intensively while writing my research thesis. The book is very professional and it is written in a "user friendly" manner.

Excellent reference book for every pathology, histology student and laboratory.

2.0 out of 5 stars Most Over-rated text in Histotechnology, January 23, 2009
This is without doubt, the most over-rated histotechnology textbook on the market. The reason for it's success is because it has been pushed by the ASCP and is used for the foundation of the ASCP histotechnology examination (again extremely poor curriculum and examination).
If you really want to understand the science behind histotechnology and not a cook-book format, you must read either John Kiernan's "Histological and Histochemical Methods: Theory and Practice" or John Bancroft's "Theory and Practice of Histological Techniques"
