Product Description

In this quirky first novel, the U.S. Forestry Department mistakenly delivers 1,000 spruce tree seedlings to former attorney Horace, who decides to plant the tiny trees in the wild. Horace's wife begins to think he's gone mad. Into the mix come an ex-convict, who helps Horace plant the trees, and his girlfriend. Four souls adrift finally come together on a Maine island, where they discover unexpected joy in each other's company and ultimately come together as a family.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yes! A most enjoyable read, June 16, 2007
Beautiful descriptive writing. A well crafted story about a handful of mismatched (unexpected) people who come together on a journey of discovery and change. One of my favorite books this year!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Unexpected Windfall, July 4, 2007
By Lonnie Hinchey (Annapolis, MD) - See all my reviews
The author's gift for storytelling, and her knowledge of her environment, immediately lead the reader on an imaginative journey through Maine's wilderness and rural areas in search of the perfect spot to plant thousands of pine trees mysteriously delivered to the wrong address. Ms. Morse portrays her four disparate and intensely human main characters with compassion and humor, which makes their coming together both plausible and interesting. A delightful read. Let there be more of her.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Unexpected Forest, June 15, 2007
By D. Kelsey (Portland, Maine) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
In An Unexpected Forest, Morse's skill with details and the creation of believable and delightfully in-the-flesh characters make this an engaging book with a hopeful but not sappy message about humankinnd. There is a wonderful sense of quirkiness that drew me in immediately-starting with the mis-delivery of 1000 tree seedlings. I've read it twice and found it fully engrossing both times.
