Editorial Reviews

From Scientific American
A ground-breaking work. Clear, imaginative, and inspiring, it offers a revolutionary image of the human mind and the universe.

From The New Yorker
A brilliantly executed theoretical romp through the universe...to do all this with humor and suspense is indeed a major accomplishment.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Simple Work of Mystical but Pragmatic Genius!, June 13, 2003
By B. Naparstek (Cleveland Hts, OH United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I can't even imagine how brilliant Bentov was, because he explains the Nature of Things so clearly, intuitively and humorously for the physics- and math-impaired that it boggles my mind. And he also very gently and humorously explains those mystical connections, synchronicities and the quirky nature of time. It's the kind of abstract but accessible knowledge that opens spiritual doors. And even though theoretical physics has advanced significantly since Bentov died, his thinking still holds up quite nicely. What a tour de force. My copy is dog-eared from all the times I've visited and revisited this book, and I'm happy to have this forum to express my admiration.

5.0 out of 5 stars Astonishingly brilliant, simple, logical and powerful., October 18, 1996
By A Customer
One of only a handful of books I have ever read that carry its case in such a powerful manner. I am a retired academic and have read several hundred books of quality on philosophy, metaphysical propositions, quantum mechanics, etc. Few of them offered anything approaching a really new or viable approach to the dynamics of consciousness. This book is as unique in its approach to the subject matter as George Gamow's seminal work "One, Two, Three, Infinity". It is simply astonishing, to me, to read such a erudite presentation of such a challenging topic, produced by an, essentially, academically untrained intellect. Bentov was a priceless mind. I am saddened I will never have the opportunity to engage him in direct conversation

5.0 out of 5 stars Exploring Realities as States of Consciousness, January 10, 2004
STALKING THE WILD PENDULUM is a truly classic book in the field of consciousness that's lots of fun to read! Packed with cartoons, graphs, and diagrams, this book entertains as it educates. Scientific theories and experimental results are presented in plain English that clearly show how different realities are actually different states of consciousness... and how we can move from one to another.

One of my all-time favorite exercises on stopping time is described -- which helped me better understand how I'd done that when I was a teenager, and wondered if anyone else had ever seen time slow to a stop. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wishes to understand the true nature of reality and consciousness.
