"Centering is one of the better-generalized inner growth books on the market. The authors cover a variety of topics from meditation and mindfulness through detachment and the concept of time to healing energy and dream work. They've also included several apptitudinal profile tests for self-inquiry purposes." (

4.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive but perhaps too broad, February 14, 2003
By Shawn Regan (marietta, GA United States) - See all my reviews

There is a lot of depth to this book, then there is a section on retaining your subconscious to lose weight and quit smoking. This book seems stuck between the secrets of the universe and self help. New Agers will be happy to find the chapters on the human Aura, Psychic Energy and Healing. Those seeking enlightement are going to like the chapters on Detachment, Meditation and Finding the True Self. There is a terrific exercise on detachment (IMO). This book also has a pretty comprehensive description of "Conscious Creation". There are some good exercises in this book but for the most part I didn't read anything in here revolutionary or that I haven't read somewhere before. The book does agree with texts I've read prior and perhaps its value is bringing many topics together in one place.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Book, January 8, 2008
By Mary Ingram (Asheville, NC) - See all my reviews

This is absolutely the best book I have ever read on getting your
inner self centered. I am 76 now and over twenty years ago I went
through a devastating divorce and moved 3,000 miles away knowing
no one. I had convinced myself I could survive. I bought this book
the first year I came and have read and re-read it many many times.
There are golden nuggets like: The past is prologue, so forget it.
It doesnt exist.Nothing exists but the present moment, the here and now.
Most of us have heard this many times but in the end it is the absolute
truth. Dealing with Negativities is one of the best chapters.
As our negativism is probably the one major curse that prevents
us from getting truly centered. For a self help book, this one is
first and foremost one of the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Centering, February 27, 2009
How do you make decisions? Do you think long and hard about what to do, carefully looking at the pros and cons? Do you make snap judgments based on your feelings at the time? Do you trust your intuition to guide the way?

Centering teaches us to get in touch with our inner self. In this way, our decisions and indeed our life path are made from a centered more balanced place. In the process, we gain more clarity about ourselves and our life path.

Centering is one of the better generalized inner growth books on the market. The authors cover a variety of topics from meditation and mindfulness through detachment and the concept of time to healing energy and dream work. They've also included several apptitudinal profile tests for self inquiry purposes.
