From School Library Journal
Gr 6-9-Lisandrelli is a master storyteller who brings to life the heroic tale of Ida B. Wells-Barnett. Born a slave in 1862, the woman dedicated her life to being a spokeswoman against racial injustice in America. She wrote newspaper articles and investigated lynchings during a period in history when women were not heard, especially African-American women. Black-and-white photographs enhance this story of determination and dedication to the cause of equality and justice. Students looking for material on this well-known crusader will appreciate this clearly written biography.-Kathleen A. Nester, Downingtown High Ninth Grade Center, PA
