Their comprehensive summary of potentially toxic substances begins with a quick-reference troubleshooting guide to more than 60 causes and symptoms of poisoning in household pets (dogs, cats, and birds), which are covered in detail throughout. There are useful overviews of potential hazards such as carbon monoxide gas, household cleaners, lead, and poisonous plants and informative chapters on the problems caused by harmful pesticides and toxic flea treatments with suggestions on solving them. Finally, a "Product Directory" lists health-oriented and environmentally responsible products such as air-treatment units and pet foods. While other pet-care books cover the topics, none is as detailed as this work.
