4.0 out of 5 stars The Most-Pleasing Prayer, July 30, 2005
In "The Secret of the Rosary" the author, Saint Louis De Montfort, sets out to persuade his readers why the rosary is the supreme prayer, and what benefits those who recite the rosary can receive. It might seem that this small treatise on prayer would be outdated, since it was written over two centuries ago; however, the applications and directions that De Montfort explains are applicable to today's faithful and faithless.

De Montfort begins his treatise by addressing various readers, giving them 'gifts', as he calls them, concerning the rosary and the message he is about to present. The first part of this book reads as a sermon from the saint. He gives a history of how the rosary came about, how it was first prayed, and the results that various saints achieved from doing so. He tells of miracles and wonders that accompanied those who faithfully said their rosary. De Montfort also explains about the Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary - how members can choose how often they wish to say the rosary. His point is that the rosary is a prayer that should be concentrated upon; that one well-said rosary is worth more than one hundred hastily said rosaries.

The second part of "The Secret of the Rosary" is dedicated to the instruction on how to say the entire rosary. De Montfort gives several ways, as well as explanations on what poses we should be in and what our mindset should be when offering this devotion up to heaven. De Montfort's work is a quick read, especially informative for non-Catholics, and one that not only offers instruction, but also appreciation for the Holy Rosary and the role it can play in the life of one who says it faithfully.

5.0 out of 5 stars When Your Very Soul Hits The Wall..., February 27, 2006
You might want to have this non-pious but incredibly inspirational book handy. It will mystically...and miraculously encourage you to pick up your rosary and pray - in perhaps a very different and more powerful way than you have ever done before. And if you don't believe in any of this, just try it. A life changing book as much as the rosary is a soul-saving spiritual weapon against evil - (that few can deny is alive and well on planet earth) and one of the most effective heavenly life-preservers gifted to we mere mortals.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incomparable...just a wonderful book!, August 22, 2004
This is a little bit of pious reading you will return to again and again. Although the writing style may make it somewhat dated, the truths that come forth are just as potent today as they were when this was first written. Vatican II types who have tried to reduce devotion to Mary to something optional and outdated will hopefully have their eyes opened wide after reading this, and re-discover why the Rosary is, after the Mass, the most powerful prayer the Holy Catholic Church posseses. Miss this book at your soul's peril!
