Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Following on the success of titles covering tent camping in the Smoky Mountains and in Florida, Molloys latest is a pure delight. Colorado offers desert, prairie, and mountain camping opportunities, and Molloy has apparently visited just about all of them in his effort to present the best sites. He uses a five-star rating system to describe the beauty, privacy, spaciousness, noise level, and security of each campground, and he includes a wealth of information on the nearby attractions campers will want to see. Going beyond camping, he offers information on activities available at each of the sites, including fishing, hiking, mountain biking, and whitewater rafting. The dedicated camper will appreciate Molloys subtitlethis is not for those who believe roughing it means going without a TV. Clear driving directions, phone numbers, web addresses, fees, and restrictions add to the books overall value. Considering the importance of Colorado as a vacation destination, as well as the lack of materials on true outdoor camping, Molloys book belongs on the shelf of most public libraries.Joseph L. Product Description

If you subscribe to the opinion that televisions, Japanese lanterns, and electric guitars are not essential camping equipment, The Best in Tent Camping: Colorado should be your constant companion.

This is a guidebook for tent campers who like quiet, scenic, and serene campsites. It's the perfect resource if you blanch at the thought of pitching a tent on a concrete slab, trying to sleep through the blare of another camper's boombox, or waking to find your tent surrounded by a convoy of RVs.

The Best in Tent Camping: Colorado will guide you to the quietest, most beautiful, most secure, and best managed campground in the majestic Centennial State. Painstakingly selected from thousands of campgrounds - from the prairie to the mountains - each campsite is rated for beauty, noise, privacy, security, spaciousness and cleanliness.

In addition, each campground profile provides essential details on facilities, reservations, fees, and restrictions, as well as an accurate, easy-to-read map, making the campground a snap to locate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tent Camping in the San Juan Mountains, March 31, 2000
By Bryan E. DeLay (Atlanta, Georgia) - See all my reviews
Mr. Molloy's book Best In Tent Camping: Colorado was a great help in planning my trip to the San Juan Mountains. After reading the book, I flew to Durango and then drove to Transfer Park to set up my base camp. Mr. Molloy was correct. Transfer Park was lived up to his description. I camped by the fast flowing Florida River, enjoying the sunny summer days and cool mountain nights. During the days I headed to the nearby Weminuche Wilderness and day hiked up the Los Pinos River and Flint Creek. Since Transfer Park is close to Durango, I was able to go into town for supplies,a little shopping and even a rafting trip down the Animas River. With the help of Mr. Molloy's book I was able to plan and execute a very sucessful vacation. If you are planning a tent camping trip to Colorado I would definitely purchase this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Colorado Vacation, March 23, 2000
By Kathleen McDonald (Kansas City, Kansas) - See all my reviews
Johnny Molloy's book on Colorado was a great help. I'd never been to Colorado beore and didn't know where to start. With only two weeks of vacation, I wanted to make every day count. With this book, I enjoyed classic destinations like Rocky Mountain National Parks Timber Creek campground, where elk strolled by my camp and Mesa Verde campground where I saw Anasazi ruins. But the book also led me to lesser known destinations like Dominguez Canyon, a BLM campground on the Uncompahgre Plateau. Here, I fished for trout and did a little mountain biking. My vacation was made complete by this book: not to mention the money I saved tent camping instead of staying in expensive lodges. If you are going to invest you time in visiting Colorado outdoors, invest in this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for campers who know what they're looking for., June 20, 2001
By A Customer
My husband and I truly enjoy camping in Colorado, and have spent every summer we've lived here touring the state and camping out. We NEVER stay in a hotel. It's so exciting to visit new places and enjoy the beauty of nature. It's so important to me to find "THE" perfect camp site, and sometimes that's not easy when time or resources are limited. Johnny Malloy gives you the right amount of information for each campground he reviews so that you can feel confident that when you get to where you're going, you won't feel disappointed. Some reviews include information about the geography of the area, crowds, activities nearby, and even which site(s) is(are) the best site at the campground. He also includes the elevation of each campground which is important because it gets cold in Colorado at night sometimes! Using this book, you can easily find the right information about a campground so that you can really enjoy your time spent outdoors.
