Product Description

Travel Writing. Women's Literature. "In the best tradition of the genre, this splendid collection of travel writing stimulates thought, challenges our preconceptions, and causes us to reflect on the meaning of home"-Saint Paul Pioneer Press. This book, the second in a series of New Rivers Press anthologies of women's travel writing, is a stunningly diverse collection of writing by American women in other countries. The forty-seven contributors range in occupation from writers to teachers to mountain climbers, writing from locations as diverse as Ireland, China, and the Sahara Desert. The result, according to the Returned Peace Corps Volunteers Writers and Readers, is "a mine packed so full of jewels, the reader can sit back and pluck them out of the schist as easily as ripe berries from their stems. A bounty. A feast."

5.0 out of 5 stars Tanzania on Tuesday is about women and trust., August 13, 1997
By jeannedhae@aol.com (Summit, New Jersey) - See all my reviews
What can you do when there is no bus to the place that you need to go? Read Tanzania on Tuesday and marvel at the resiliance of women who travel. As one of the anthology authors in this book,Jeanne D'Haem, I was surprized at how well the stories fit together. This is a book about innocence and trust, something children and women travellers frequently experience. When you are not in control of events you learn another equally important skill, to be fully aware in each moment. This does not mean that you loose sight of your goals, as my story, Tanzania on Tuesday shows, but you must embrace the journey. I almost called this story Serindipity on the Serengeti but I could not spell it so I used an alternative like women who hitchhike because there is no bus.
