Review
The FAMILY MATH books frequently are used and recommended by teachers to help families rediscover the fun and excitement in making mathematics discoveries together. With an emphasis on four-to eight-year-old children, activities in the FAMILY MATH for Young Children book use commonly found items and bring family members together in the process of learning from each other. Each activity or exploration is concisely organized into five sections: "This Is About," "You Will Need," "Getting Ready," "Activity," and "Insight." Parents are encouraged to give children numerous opportunities for exploration and are reminded of the role that a child's development plays in accomplishing tasks.
I consider this book to be an excellent resource to help teachers bridge the gap between home and school. It will go far in building the confidence in mathematics for both parents and their children. -- Reviewed by Iren e M. Raber, Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District, South Hamilton, MA 01982.
