3.0 out of 5 stars One of the classic great books on the small block chevy, May 30, 1999
By A Customer
Covers all the building blocks of performance Small Block engine building. This book was written before all the electronic fuel injection and aluminum heads of the eighties were introduced. So it's really aimed at non fuel injected cars. This is 70's technology, very well written with good photos. A Classic reference book I keep in my toolbox. (I'd rate it five stars if it were newer info.)

2.0 out of 5 stars An interesting historical study, but little relevance today, August 6, 2005
If you're interested in the history of hot-rodding or the small block Chevy V8, then you might find a few interesting things in here. However since this book was written over 30 years ago, it predates the development of much of the performance aftermarket for the SBC. Much of the focus of the book is on modifying stock parts to make them suitable for performance use, when today the same or better results could be obtained more easily or in many cases more cheaply with new-technology aftermarket parts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome 'old school' advice, October 6, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I love this book. I purchased it to replace a copy i had lost when i moved to my new house. this book teaches you a lot of the 'old school' techniques of performance engine building. It has many factory part numbers for camshafts, cranks, etc and has wild pictures of stuff the late greats such as Smokey Yunick built back in the glory days of cars. I would recommend anyone that likes small blocks to read it.
