5.0 out of 5 stars a masterpiece, December 15, 1998
By A Customer
Its a pity that this book is not better known. It is truly one of the greatest books ever written on chess. It begins with the concept of blockade. This is a method of paralyzing enemy counter play, and preventing the enemy from organizing his forces. The appendix then gives the fundamental rules of strategy, in which, weak points are created or found in order to infiltrate and eventually destroy the enemy. This is a thin book, but I have never seen such a concentration of chess wisdom and genius in any other book. The word genius is often over used. There is no genius in chess today or even in recent decades. The only genius chess ever had was Aron Nimzowitsch and this book and his other writings more than prove it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, June 19, 2000
AS always Aron Numzowitsch is great. His revolutionary ideas can change anyones weak chess game into a strong positional chess game. I would recommend this book to anyone trying to become more than just the average player who learns by playing over the internet or against their computer

4.0 out of 5 stars A precursor for his later works, April 18, 2002
By Petrosian (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
Covers the concept of blockade. All well and good, except his magnum opus work (My System) did so as well, with much detail paid to other topics in addition. If you are pressed for money, this would be a good book to get. But try to read My System first.

Of course, if you really like Nimzowitsch, you probably already have this book...

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential reading, along with My System and Praxis
This book is so beautiful. It is stunning that it can still be bought here for six dollars. It contains some deeply annotated games that are not included in his other works. Read more
