The author served as a seaman on the last American commercial sailing ships in the 1930s (coastwise schooners). The book is a collection of magazine articles that describe his adventures, relate the history of those last ships, and explain some of the the technology. It is illustrated by numerous photographs, many taken on shipboard by the author.
About the Author
Native of Brooklyn, NY, born 1920. Commercial sailing experience during his highschool and college summer vacations. Graduate of Virginia Military Institute and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Degree in naval architecture from the latter school. Served in the Air Force during WWII. Career as a shipbuilder at Newport News Shipbuilding from graduation until retirement. Became a museum-quality model builder after retirement.
