Editorial Reviews
(The New York Times)
"A dog may be man's best friend, but have you ever tried to book yourself and your best friend into a hotel? Robert and Dawn Habgood have, and they have compiled the results into On the Road Again with Man's Best Friend." --The New York Times --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Book Description
After spending fifteen years visiting and writing about thousands of bed and breakfasts, inns, hotels, and resorts for their critically acclaimed regional series On the Road Again with Mans Best Friend Dawn and Robert Habgood have used their expertise to write their first national, pet-oriented travel guide. The only national pet travel guide to combine so many choices with such detailed information.

In the U.S. edition of On the Road Again with Mans Best Friend, the Habgoods balance quality with quantity. With over 16,000 accommodations from mom-and-pop motels and B&Bs to expansive resorts and luxurious hotels you will always find an array of intriguing places to stay with your favorite canine or feline.

These are not bare bone lists. In fact, Each entry includes the name, address, telephone number, and web site address (when available), along with number of rooms and corresponding rates. "Pet Policies" give pet fees, pet size and weight limitations, as well as any pet amenities that are provided. "Creature Comforts" outline the establishments amenities and include an array of features ranging from VCRs, Jacuzzis, and wet bars to on-site restaurants, health clubs, and pools.

Their special logo indicates the finest and most unique whether it be a gracious Southern mansion, a Western dude ranch, a five-star resort, or an intimate seaside bed and breakfast. The Habgoods were very selective, highlighting only those that they personally visited or that received multiple reader recommendations. Those specially designated accommodations also receive a short, detailed review. Information is that of an insider, with inclusion based on merit. Please note that none of the accommodations has paid a fee for inclusion in this book.

Before picking up the telephone to reserve a room, read through the introduction. Here, the Habgoods discuss traveling with your pet, safety information, things you should bring for your pet, and what to do if she gets lost. The section, "Not All Rooms are Created Equal," provides the inside scoop on how to reserve the best rooms and questions to ask to make sure that you dont get shuffled into undesirable rooms because you are traveling with a pet. "Money Matters" give advice on how to find discounted room rates, as well as some of the hidden aspects of pet fees and deposits.

This is an amazing resource, comprising nearly 900 pages, and one that you will want to include in all your adventures. Whether youre traveling across the country, along the coasts, or to all 50 states, this tome will ensure an enjoyable trip down the road with your best friend or favorite feline.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superlative resource, June 22, 2000
In planning a cross-country trip with my dog (and wife too) for Summer 2000, this proved an invaluable resource. It lists thousands of pet-friendly places to stay in virtually every city and major town in all 50 states. Although the entries for each inn are very basic, they hit the high points: address, phone, web site, pet policy, and basic amenities. Places they have visited or for which they have received multiple reader recommendations are starred. I also like the fact that they cover a wide range of establishments, ranging from cottages to motels to bed-and-breakfasts to top-of-the-line hotels. Its not really a travel guide you'll need, because the information is too abbreviated, but it is a very valuable reference tool. Highly recommended.
