Same-sex unions are becoming more commonplace, but wedding guides are still difficult to find. Taking on the look of a wedding album, this book profiles homosexual couples who have united in a commitment ceremony (some over 20 years ago). Written by the couples themselves, the profiles feature the same format: a brief biographical sketch, then well-written comments on how the couple met, their courtship, and their ceremony, followed by editorial comments emphasizing distinguishing elements of the relationship or giving an update. A large part of the book discusses wedding traditions and features detailed excerpts from several couples' ceremonies. From these, readers can decide if and how to incorporate elements of heterosexual weddings into their own ceremony. A planning time line and resource list provide further assistance. An uplifting, heavily illustrated social history, this is a valuable supplement to pragmatic guides like Tess Ayers and Paul Brown's The Essential Guide to Lesbian and Gay Weddings (LJ 8/94). For all public libraries.
