Product Description
Children need to learn at an early age that their actions will have consequences. Negative actions having negative consequences. They must learn to take responsibility for these actions. And to know how one "seemingly" little thing you do can affect so many so greatly... They need to learn and experience respect, caring and love both for themselves and others. We all need to work together on solving these problems.

Violence is an extreme form of "bullying." A worse case scenario. Most of the time these kids started out being picked on themselves. In my book we call this the "BULLY CYCLE." Bullies creating more bullies. Becoming a bully as a means of protecting yourself (or so you think) ... hoping if you are the one causing the pain, you will never again have to experience it yourself. They feel so bad about themselves and think that controlling someone else will make them feel better or help distract from their own problems.

Children today feel numb ... some have been bullied to the point of feeling nothing. They are withdrawn and hopeless. If all kids could understand how to accept themselves and know that they're "OK", there wouldn't have to be any "Bullies" or "Victims".

This book helps parents, teachers and children give kids the skills they need to deal with BULLIES and maintain healthy SELF-ESTEEM. It is intended to help both the bullies and the victims feel good about themselves, thereby lessening the recent violence we've experienced in our schools.

1 out of 4 kids will be bullied this month. IT'S TIME TO DO SOMETHING!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Taking the Bully by the Horns" HELPS VICTIMS OF BULLYING, March 25, 2005
Take time to read "Taking the Bully by the Horns." As a teacher & child advocate I can tell you it will give you an insight to bullies, victims, & reactions. Physical, Verbal & Mental Bullying are covered.

Children who are being bullied mentally are under the *control* of the bully. They are confused & looking for a way out. As the same with Adult Bullying (Dr. Carter's best-seller "Nasty People"), some bullies keep us so wrapped around their finger we don't always recognize it so readily!

The book is written for ease in understanding; young people can tackle this book with success, learn why's and how's of bullying, and learn that people who are bullied don't have to be "victims," and actions--not reactions--can be taken to improve situations. This simply written book can be an effective tool against bullying and at the same time provide an insight at to why young people turn to bullying.

YES, both Victims AND Bullies have low self-esteem. Arrogance should not be mistaken for a "high self-esteem." Someone who has a "good" self-esteem has no need to CONTROL. - Dr. Jay Carter

The book contains chapters to help both the victims and bullies. Anybody who has actually READ the book knows the book does not teach you how to BE a victim. It teaches that people/kids don't *have* to BE victims, while offering helpful insight to both handling/stopping the bullying and improving self-esteem throughout the entire book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Take the bully has helped my child tremendously, April 17, 2000
By A Customer
My child has come under attack from other children at her school, and becoming aware of this book and listening to the advice offered was the best help we could of hoped for.Her self esteem has been boosted and she is now aware that it is not her that is the problem but rather the other children who have the real problems.I would like to personally thank Kathy Noll and Dr. Carter for caring enough to put together this much needed information. For us it has been a godsend! Thank you so much

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful for self-defense instructors who work with children, July 29, 1998
By A Customer
Working for many years with children who are the victims of bullying I feel I have found a useful tool explaining the reasons why some kids hurt other kids. It is difficult to identify the behaviors children should be aware of before the bullying even begins. I feel Ms. Noll has done the job very well. I would recommend this book to all my friends as well as parents in our organization. It is a "must read" for all martial arts instructors.
