Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal
Grade 1-6–This edition of Shepards collection of closely adapted story scripts for elementary children is basically the same as the original (H. W. Wilson, 1993) with a couple of changes. It has been pared down from 22 stories to 15 (more available on the Web site) and omits the appendix that offered detailed information on using readers theater in the classroom and on these scripts in particular. With its mix of humor, fantasy, and multicultural tales, such as Caryn Yacowitzs The Jade Stone and Harold Courlanders Talk, this book gives teachers both a fun and useful tool for bringing reading and literature to their students.–Betty S. Evans, Southwest Missouri State University, Springfield

Review
Aaron Shepard once again provides the means for teachers to nurture a passion for the written word. -- Susan Finney, Author, Keep the Rest of the Class Reading and Writing While You Teach Small Groups

Reader's theater gets a boost. . . . The scripts are simple and direct, multicultural, and easily reproducible for classroom use. --Ilene Cooper, Booklist (American Library Association), Jan. 1, 1994

Stellar scripts. . . . This is one must-have book. -- Judy Freeman, Author, More Books Kids Will Sit Still For

5.0 out of 5 stars Theatre Teachers: This Is What You Need, November 10, 2006
By A. Rassler (Concord, NC USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book is formatted so easily, it took me MUCH less time than I thought it would to prepare a unit on reader's theatre for my class. I used it for my high school theatre class so they wouldn't have to concentrate on large vocabularies, but rather to deliver the story in a simple, easy way. It was a HUGE success of a project and this book made it possible. It tells you how long each story is, what cast you'll need, and what reading level it is!! Yay!!!
The stories themselves are entertaining (even for high school!!!), compelling, and really fun to work with. I am SO grateful I ordered this!

Aaron Shepard is a generous contributor to the field of Reader's Theatre. This book is no exception. It's well-laid out and chock-full of interesting scripts. I've recommended to several folks interested in RT.

3.0 out of 5 stars Reader's Theater, April 30, 2009
I wanted plays that were interesting and could be used with 5th graders. Some of the plays were bland and of no interest.
