Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review
This useful volume is a market-specific compendium of magazines, book publishers, theaters, newspapers and newsletters, etc., all specializing--in whole or part--in work by and for gay and lesbian writers. Sure, you can find a lot of this information by culling through other, more general market books, but here it is assembled in one handy volume. The only drawback is that this edition is somewhat dated, and in an industry as variable as publishing, another update is clearly called for.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very, Very Out Of Date - Don't Waste Your Money!!, April 9, 2002
By A Customer
For anyone interested in writing for the gay and lesbian press this book is of almost no value whatsoever. A much better book is Paul Harris's excellent "The Harris Guide 2001" which reads like an encyclopedia in comparison to this book. It also has useful information about how to self-syndicate your writings which is the only way anyone can earn any significant sum writing for the gay press other than becoming a staffer on one of the publications.

3.0 out of 5 stars Oudated but somewhat helpful, August 10, 2000
By A Customer
After submitting my new novel to many of the book publishers listed in PUTTInG Out, I began getting return to sender envelopes daily. It seems the lesbian/gay market is so unstable, that many of the listed presses have already gone out of business, are no longer accepting manuscripts, etc. So be advised: check first before sending anything. The book is helpful for the presses that were still in business. Looking forward to a new updated edition.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lots of hype, somewhat helpful, December 28, 2000
By A Customer
You may find this book to be helpful if you don't have high expectations. I imagine that the listings of publishers will be useful to you if they are still current; however, I note that several of the women's publishers' listings are not current as of December 2000. The articles in the front of the book were only moderately interesting for my genre (erotica), but again, I think my expectations were too high. Certainly helpful for the price, and content will be more helpful for those wishing to publish short pieces in magazines and journals.
