5.0 out of 5 stars Go ahead -- read it, February 18, 1998
It's difficult to write a punless review of this surprisingly serious book, which is deep, kind-hearted, and important. Queen's a reverential philosopher of sex, and she knows something about shyness, too. She admits it takes a good therapist to overcome this stuff, but lets us in on what she does know that might help! She never trivializes or minimizes her readers' hangups; she's a teacher of the best sort. Queen is experienced in all areas -- she's done everything -- and knows and respects human sexuality of all stripes. She wants to teach its happiest and best expression to her readers. Along with some comparatively unusual practices are words of amazing wisdom. Good ideas for ways to think about, talk about, and practice masturbation and safe sex with panache. I might not follow her advice word for word (I'm still too shy), but I loved this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Book, September 18, 2000
If you are the least bit shy regarding your sexuality then this is the book for you! I have seen an enormous increase in my own self confidence (so has my husband!) She breaks down barriers in your shyness and gives you options on how to break out of that mold with ideas, strategies, and examples. I like the way she gives you several options of an exercise. There were some I didn't feel comfortable with but she gave variations so that you can work with it. I definately recommend this to anyone who wants to develop sexual self confidence.

5.0 out of 5 stars Basically about stripping your own inhibitions, April 3, 2003

Carol Queen is now a famous sex educator who describes herself as a recovering shy person. In 13 chapters and 3 appendices she helps us understand what holds us back from exploring and fully enjoying our sexuality and offers exercises we can use to move into a more fulfilling passionate life with ourselves and with others. This book will not teach you how to strip or how to seduce someone until you feel comfortable with yourself first. An excellent book that offered me some advice I have tried to put into practice in my own life. I'm getting a little less shy every day and it feels good.
