Editorial Reviews

From the Actor

YMAA: Yang's Martial Arts Association was established in Boston, MA in 1982. With the intent of preserving traditional Chinese Gongfu (Kung Fu) and Qigong , Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming began training students in the rigors of Shaolin Long Fist and White Crane Gongfu as well as Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan. Dr. Yang also undertook his life-long dream of teaching and researching the Chinese arts and introducing them to the West through many books, videos and DVDs.

YMAA Publication Center has been a publisher of high quality traditional martial arts and health books since 1984, and is a pioneer in the cultural exchange between the East and West. While the West has successfully developed the material sciences, the East is celebrated for its levels of spiritual cultivation. During this period of exchange, the building of bridges is critical for the successful integration of the achievements of both societies.

Product Description

Chin Na is the art of seizing and controlling, and is an element of all Chinese martial arts, including Taijiquan (Tai Chi). For the last fifty years the martial aspects of Taijiquan have been ignored, and the art is now incomplete. Most practitioners no longer understand the martial applications of Taijiquan, or even that it is a martial art.

In this video, Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming reveals effective and powerful Chin Na techniques hidden in the Yang style postures, the Eight Moving Patterns and Pushing Hands. Detailed instruction for practice will enable you to teach yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deep and traditional Tai Chi, January 20, 2004
By A Customer
This video has opened my eyes reagarding the art of Tai Chi. I was aware of the health benefits of Tai Chi, and that it is an ancient art which millions of people practice every day worldwide. I wasn't aware that the art had so much martial arts history and that it is considered possibly the highest achievement in martial arts. The video has led me to do a lot of reading, and to begin practicing Tai Chi Pushing hands, which is a partner training that eventually will lead to training Tai Chi fighting.

The Chin Na grappling instructed on this video is facinating, and gives me new purpose and excellent intent of mind when I am practicing the postures. The instruction is very clear, and by practicing with a partner I've been able to learn a lot of the Chin Na, which sure comes in handy during Pushing Hands!
