2.0 out of 5 stars 98% of this book consists of listings of immigrants., January 27, 1999
By A Customer
This book has only about 20 pages of general info about French immigration to Louisiana during the period of 1820-1839. The book also contains 12 pages of tables of statistics about the immigrants. The remaining 551 pages are the alphabetical listings of French immigrants containing name, age, sex, occupation, nationality (which is France obviously), port of departure, date of arrival, and destination of the immigrant listed. Most of them had no particular destination. If your ancestors are listed, you are fortunate but the book also has thousands of other listings about which you will have no interest.

5.0 out of 5 stars A most helpful and fact-filled book, November 30, 1999
By A Customer
This book covers a time in history for which there is a lack of data and information. This listing brings to light as many names as possible of French immigrants to Louisiana. Intertwined within its pages are the names of families who helped to make Louisiana the great state that it has become. Although it may not contain the names of every French immigrant for the period in question, it is an extremely valuable dictionary for any historian or genealogist!

This is a great book for your family history if they came in by ship to New Orleans. I found it very informative.
