4.0 out of 5 stars In-depth, heavy, deep, and scholastic analysis, March 11, 2005
This book is truly the child of a lawyer and a university professor. This book is very dense, but don't be put off by that; it's worth the distilled, well-put phrases that shine out and catch your attention. Thoughtful and even-handed, the Toscanos explore the implications of LDS theology without apologizing all over themselves for their independent conclusions. Orthodox Mormons will consider this one taboo for no other reason than the Toscanos are both excommunicated, but the ideas and themes discussed are not going to shock or surprise anyone who has been in the church for a while. Mormon feminists will find a gold mine in this work, which questions patriarchy and makes some very relevant points. This work would have merited five stars had it been condensed just a bit and written in a less legalistic form of prose, but is still superb and should not be overlooked.
