Editorial Reviews
From Library Journal
This is an inspiring and immensely readable biography of the first ordained woman minister in the United States and the first to practice her profession for nearly a quarter of a century. Dividing her efforts between ministerial and suffrage work, Brown (1835-1926) was active in suffrage campaigns in Kansas and Wisconsin, helped to establish the New England Woman Suffrage Association and the Federal Suffrage Association, and was a vocal supporter of Alice Paul's Congressional Union. Although academic historians will find little of value in this non-scholarly account, general readers may be intrigued by tales of the petty jealousies and political rivalries that beset the suffrage movement.
