Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

K-Gr 2-In this Creation fable, God makes all dinosaurs happy herbivores. After 150 million years, however, a sudden outbreak of possessiveness leads to rampant greed and selfishness. Dinosaurs stop sharing, and some become carnivores. God decides to end their reign (via earthquakes and volcanoes) and try again-with a smarter creature able to reflect on problems instead of reacting violently. The message is clear-and so is the image of God as a punitive Enforcer. The illustrations feature colored clay figures posed against painted backdrops or in clay landscapes. Static and amateurish, they lack even the ``camp'' appeal of Claymation. This book is no competition for the many stylish and wisdom-filled children's books available today.-Patricia Dooley, formerly at University of Washington, Seattle

5.0 out of 5 stars A Story About Not Being Selfish, December 7, 2007
This book teaches that sharing is good and selfishness is bad. It uses a Book of Genesis-like tale of God and creation, but without preaching any religion. It does not address the creation or evolutionary theory debate... This is a children's book. This is a book about good dinosaurs gone wild, "A Barney Without A Cause", if you will.

The illustrations are pictures of clay figures, which will be a pleasant touch of nostalgia for parents who were kids back in the '50's and '60's, and if a parent can get into telling a story well to their child, the kids are sure to love the experience all the more.

5.0 out of 5 stars PS, November 11, 2002
The artists who created the illustrations for this book are from the same studio that did The Animated Megillah and The Animated Hagaddah, among others.

2.0 out of 5 stars Amateurish, January 31, 2000
By A Customer
It follows the story that God created the dinosaurs and then didn't like what they became, so destroyed them all. It lacked the graphics to go with the story, as the pictures are of playdough figures and didn't agree with the children for whom I purchased the book. I recommend you buy another title with better graphics.
