An engaging, illuminating and powerful read, Galway's Pirate Women is a must for anyone interested or involved in pirate/community radio, the women's movement or who is looking for the untold stories of recent Irish history.

Margaretta D'Arcy, editor of this book and founder of Radio Pirate Woman, contributes an excellent, engaging story of how and why Radio Pirate Woman was founded. Her essay details the philosophy behind a grassrotts radio station and the history of the battle in Ireland for community radio access.

But Radio Pirate Woman is also the story of the women who have dropped in, chatted, contributed and campaigned to the station and campaigns it has been involved with. This is a rich soical history, written in essays and poetry by women who have been on the station and illustrated with photos, flyers, posters and other materials from Pirate Woman campaigns, such as the wages for housework fight.

Thoroughly engaging, Galway's Pirate Woman is a must ! ! read.
