Product Description

The original Go MAD® book, this title is a great introduction to the Go MAD® Framework. Each of the seven principles are explained in-depth and related to practical examples. Guaranteed to leave you inspired and hungry to put the knowledge into practice!

About the Author

The 14-month research project resulted in the formulation of a revolutionary framework that came to be known as the Go MAD® (Make A Difference) process. As one CEO of a FTSE 100 company described it, the Go MAD® process is “a simple, yet sophisticated, multi-purpose development tool that can be universally applied to make measurable business differences.” Supported by the initial research and Andy’s perpetual mission to make the Go MAD® process available to all in the public and private sector, Andy founded the Go MAD Research and Consulting Group, a values based business that provides a solution focused thinking system that equips people with the mindset and skills to make business and personal improvements. Prior to this, Andy worked as one of three Senior Managers in a specialist consultancy, which grew over 5 years to be the 3rd largest company in its sector. Andy’s ability to diffuse complex concepts into simple, universally understandable and pragmatic ideas has generated demand in the corporate arena and Andy is often called to lead cultural transformation, organisational change and leadership programmes. An established author of over 20 books and presenter of over 40 video programmes, Andy’s recent books include, ‘Go MAD – The Art of Making A Difference’, ‘Go MAD About Coaching’ and a fictional book based on the Go MAD® process called, ‘Who’s Driving Your Bus?’ Frequently referred to as a “consultant’s consultant”, Andy is Co-Chairman of the Consultancy Development Network (CDN) set up to help forward thinking consultants network with each other and develop themselves and their businesses. Andy unleashes his years of business experience and contagious enthusiasm in a monthly ideas and best-practice video programme for the CDN. Andy is also founding Chairman of Go Make A Difference, a registered charity which works to help under 25 year olds to develop their ability to make a difference. A graduate with an MSc in Human Resource Development, Andy is a ceaseless behavioural researcher and, even when he is not working, is passionate about delving into the minds of successful people, through reading and study, to find out how they make a difference. Andy lives in a converted farmhouse with his wife in the heart of Leicestershire countryside where he enjoys quad biking and co-habiting with the surrounding nature that includes foxes, badgers and many squirrels.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real motivator, March 16, 2006
Reviewed by Danielle Feliciano for Reader Views (3/06)

"Go MAD - The Art of Making a Difference" is a must-read for anyone who wants to make a difference in their lives. In this book, Andy Gilbert provides such a wealth of information, it is impossible to finish reading it and not want to get up and do something. It is written in a somewhat informal tone, which helps the reader feel more at ease and in control, as opposed to feeling like he or she is being lectured. Mr. Gilbert fills the book with inspirational quotes, as well as real-life examples of the Go MAD system at work.

There is a lot of information in this book, yet at no time does it feel overwhelming. Mr. Gilbert does a splendid job of not only taking a large subject and breaking it down into manageable pieces, but of showing how each of those pieces is dependent up on each other. He provides a number of pyramid diagrams that reinforce how essential each principle is to the others. With the use of seven main principles, the reader is introduced to the Go MAD way of thinking, and is taught how to apply this way of thinking to all aspects of life. Each principle has its own chapter, and beyond that, each chapter is further broken down into smaller sections, making it much easier for the reader to absorb and understand what the author is saying. Throughout the book, the author poses questions to the reader, as well as provides exercises to help prod your thinking and find where in your life the Go MAD system would be most beneficial.

Mr. Gilbert often takes a very direct approach to things, challenging the reader to move beyond excuses. At the same time, he does not instruct the reader on what to do; rather, he provides the necessary tools and leaves the ultimate decision up to the individual. It is each person's responsibility to make their own difference, and Mr. Gilbert is merely there to help pave the way. "Go MAD - The Art of Making a Difference" is a wonderful motivator and an essential addition to the library of anyone who truly wants to make a difference.
