3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as I hoped it would be, January 21, 2009
By Book Jacket "Matt" (Lancaster, PA) - See all my reviews
Having read and loved "The fall of Lucifer" I couldn't wait for the next chapter of the story. I pre-ordered Messiah on Amazon and waited for it to arrive. On the day it came I literally ripped open the box and immediately settled down to read it. Now having finished it I have to say: "eh, it's ok." But a bit of a letdown. My two big issues with the book are:

1) Wendy loves to spend pages and pages describing her characters and locations. Clearly she had her jumbo sized thesaurus sitting next to her when she was writing it. And I understand that Heaven, hell, and Angels deserve big coverage. But she goes on and on wasting ink on long descriptions of minute details. I found myself jumping ahead several paragraphs at a time to get back to the story. The book clocks in at over around 420 pages, but I'll bet at least 50 pages of repetative, wordy, descriptions could have been cut out without affecting the story at all.

2) The writing isn't that great. Even with the thesaurus in hand, some of the descriptions of the Angels and demons are laughable and juvenile. At one point she even has a demon jump on a broomstick to fly out of hell! I laughed out loud at that one. The names of the demons are hard to keep straight because they are pretty unusual and many of them are similar. The human characters aren't really interesting. I literally put a post-it note on the list of characters at the front of the book just so I could keep flipping to it to remember who was who.

The story idea was pretty good and it does continue the saga of Michael, Gabriel, and Lucifer. Like I said at the beginning, I was really excited to get this book so maybe the problem was my high expectations. Obviously this book is setting the stage for additional books in the series and so I will checkout the next one to see if it is any better. If you have interest in the series of books, then buy the paperback or try and get it from the library. But, be sure to keep your expectations in check.

As a side note, if you liked The Fall of Lucifer (TFL) like I did, another good book is Demon by Tosca Lee. I enjoyed that one better than TFL.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read, September 15, 2009
I found this book as enjoyable as the first one. Looking forward to reading more in the series. The story line holds your attention. The continuity of the characters, their personality who they are and so forth, is consistant and draws you in. The story splits into three lines as the third dimension of humanity and earth are added to First Heaven and Perdition. But it is easy enough to follow along. This series will read well in the vein of the Left Behind series or Lord of the Rings series. I definitely recommend this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Be careful what you read, August 29, 2009
I prefer to only read Christion Fiction. I struggled through the first book and wanted to give the second book a chance. I found it very disturbing and far fetched that Lucifer regretted leaving Heaven and that the angel Gabrielle struggled with leaving Heaven also. I would not suggest this book and actually removed them from my home library. I find the war in Heaven and fallen Angels an interesting subject and prefer to read books on this subject. One day in Heaven I pray to be able to witness the fall of Dark Angels. I realize this book is Fiction, but does not seem to follow scripture very well. I like to read books to increase my knowledge of what may have happened in Heaven so I may be prepared. I found this book completley lacking Spiritually. We are warned to watch for wolfs in sheeps clothing, and I fear some may actually believe some of what is written here. Be careful what you read, and God Bless!
