Editorial Reviews

Review

Mr. Redman's motive for this fine writing was to help offset racial and national prejudice. He asserts that Abraham Linclon's famous statement, 'All men are created equal,' did not succeed, nor could such a premise ever succeed in overcoming prejudice. There is no prejudicial Caucasian who could possibly be convinced he is anything like his Black or Oriental contemporaries. The converse is equally true. The fact is, nothing in existence is exactly like its counterparts, and people are as different from each other as the leaves on a tree. That is fine, for it is nature's design.

'What Am I?' graphically shows that mankind's composition of a multitudinous variety of types of people is what we have, not in opposition to, but in common with each other. Our differences are supplementary and can be used beneficially for universal needs. -- Los Angeles Central Public Library

Product Description

A Parents' and Teachers' "What Am I?" Guide for Children was written, designed and illustrated by Lenn Redman. This work is a sequel to the "What Am I?" book, made for parents and teachers to relay the philosophy to children. Teachers and social workers recognized the 'What Am I?' illustrated poems' inspirational message and asked that a teaching aid be designed for children.

For those who may not be familiar with poetic abstractions, Mr. Redman explains the meaning of the 'What Am I?' poem. Its illustrated verses are repeated here in miniature for convenient reference. The drawings in this book may not be reproduced for resale but may be photocopied for children to color and draw on. The pages have been perforated for easy removal.

Lenn's message is important and seemingly ahead of it's time. Considering the crisis in our schools, communities and in the world, the importance of diversity education is paramount! It's an aid for counterposing national and ethnic prejudice which we present to you for your children's entertainment and enlightenment.
