5.0 out of 5 stars Scientific approach to Magnetic Therapy, April 29, 2008
Online, people could check out Buryl Payne's website at [...] . From what I've read, he consistently grounds his work -- both in the physics of electromagnetism and its implications for healing -- in scientific experiment. I'd sure he'd welcome any more specific critiques from distinguished scientists as Dr. Dean Radin (from the previous review).(Both of these scientists have backgrounds both in psychology and in physics/engineering. I hope, this is a hopeful portend for the interdisciplinary character of future scientific investigation.)

4.0 out of 5 stars one author's opinion about magnetic therapy, August 24, 2003
Magnets are frequently sold for therapeutic purposes. Many people I know who've used them report success, especially for muscle and joint pain. But there are very few scientific studies verifying that they are, or are not, effective beyond conventional placebo effects.

This is one of a few popular-level books describing an investigator's experiences using magnets for healing. While it does not provide scientifically credible evidence, it does provide a starting point for those interested in reviewing anecdotal claims about the healing properties of magnets.

I believe that all claims for alternative medical treatments should be studied without prejudice. Some of them may be true, and it would be a pity to ignore a beneficial therapy just because it is not (yet) standard practice. While magnet therapy is not intrinsically implausible to me, I am skeptical about the range of conditions it is supposedly able to treat, so I would like to see many more scientific studies and comprehensive book-length summaries on what is known to date. This book is not quite there yet, but it is a step in the right direction.
